About the project:
“Como um” brings together photographs from two places I call home: the Opolskie region in Poland and Portugal. Since 2016, I’ve been living between these two landscapes, spending part of the year in each. The photos were taken between 2020 and 2025, in the course of everyday life across both places.
Over time, I began to notice quiet connections, shapes, textures, moods that echo between them. The images reflect how these places shape my sense of belonging. This work is not about contrast, but about how different environments can coexist within one experience, how a sense of self is formed through spaces, repetition, and everyday small things.”

Jagoda Cierniak works with photography and visual arts, focusing on the outskirts, small towns, and everyday details, often guided by intuition. She is half of the artistic duo MOTS, co-founder of the Manowce Kultury Foundation. She organizes cultural and social projects in Poland and internationally. A graduate in Cultural Studies from Jagiellonian University, worked for many years in Polish media and with NGOs. In 2025 she received an artistic scholarship from the Marshal of Opolskie. With MOTS, Jagoda has created murals and exhibited works in more than thirty European cities.

The evening will include a short talk about the project and premiere of a photo book zine „Como um”. There will also be an extra, kołocz z makiem – a vegan version of a traditional poppy seed cake from the Opole region of Silesia.
The exhibition will be on view until 27th of October.

“Como um” reúne fotografias de dois lugares que chamo de casa: a região de Opole, na Polónia, e Portugal. Desde 2016, vivo entre estas duas paisagens, passando parte do ano em cada uma delas. As fotografias foram tiradas entre 2020 e 2025, no decurso do dia a dia em ambos os lugares.
Com o tempo, comecei a notar conexões silenciosas, formas, texturas e atmosferas que ecoam entre eles. As imagens refletem como estes lugares moldam o meu sentido de pertença. Este trabalho não trata de contrastes, mas de como diferentes ambientes podem coexistir numa mesma experiência, e de como o sentido de identidade se forma através dos espaços, da repetição e das pequenas coisas do quotidiano.
Sobre a autora:
Jagoda Cierniak trabalha com fotografia e artes visuais, focando-se nos arredores, pequenas cidades e detalhes do quotidiano, muitas vezes guiada pela intuição. É metade da dupla artística MOTS e cofundadora da Fundação Manowce Kultury. Organiza projetos culturais e sociais na Polónia e internacionalmente. Mestrada em Estudos Culturais pela Universidade Jaguelónica, trabalhou muitos anos em media e com ONG’s. Em 2025, recebeu uma bolsa artística do Marechal da Voivodia de Opole. Como parte do MOTS, Jagoda e Diogo criaram vários murais e expuseram obras em mais de trinta cidades europeias
O evento inclui uma breve apresentação do projeto e a estreia do foto-zine “Como um”. Haverá também um extra especial: kołocz z makiem, uma versão vegan do tradicional bolo de sementes de papoila da região de Opole, na Silésia.A exposição estará patente até 27 de outubro.
O projeto é financiado pelo Gabinete do Marechal da Voivodia de Opole, organizado pela Fundação Manowce Kultury e com apoio de acolhimento da Casa da Horta.

„Como um” to fotografie z dwóch miejsc, które nazywam domem: Opolszczyzny i Portugalii. Od 2016 roku dzielę życie między nimi, spędzając część roku tu, część tam. Zdjęcia powstały w latach 2020–2025, w rytmie codziennego życia.
Z czasem zaczęłam dostrzegać ciche powiązania, kształty, światło, nastroje, które powtarzają się w obu miejscach. Fotografie są próbą opowiedzenia, jak przestrzenie, w których żyjemy, kształtują poczucie przynależności. Nie chodzi mi o kontrasty, lecz o współistnienie: różne miejsca tworzą jedną historię, a poczucie, że to jest moje miejsce, rodzi się w drobnych, codziennych szczegółach.
O autorce:
Jagoda Cierniak zajmuje się fotografią i sztukami wizualnymi, koncentrując się na peryferiach, małych miasteczkach i codziennych detalach, często kierując się intuicją. Jest połową duetu artystycznego MOTS oraz współzałożycielką Fundacji Manowce Kultury. Organizuje projekty kulturalne i społeczne w Polsce i za granicą. Absolwentka kulturoznawstwa na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim, przez wiele lat związana z polskimi mediami i organizacjami pozarządowymi. W 2025 roku otrzymała stypendium artystyczne Marszałka Województwa Opolskiego. Jako MOTS, razem z Diogo, tworzy murale i projekty artystyczne, ich prace można zobaczyć w ponad trzydziestu miastach Europy.
Wydarzenie obejmuje krótką prezentację projektu oraz premierę foto-zinu „Como um”. Dodatkowy sympatyczny akcent kulinarny – kołocz z makiem w wegańskiej wersji, inspirowany tradycyjnym wypiekiem z regionu opolskiego na Śląsku.
Wystawa będzie otwarta do 27 października.
